So I needed to get some of my stuff from my ex's house, and he wants to be there when I get it cause he's afraid I'll take his stuff or something (like I would want any of his crap) and it's been hard finding a time cause we're both gone at opposite times, so I called and asked if I could just come over when he's not there and he said he didn't want to do that, so I said next week sometime. So he just called back like an hour later trying to set up a time, but then he starts talking about his life and how he's doing and he just keeps being an a$$hole. He's done this several times, and it seems like he calls just to be a jerk, why?

About the jerk thing, remember that the two of you were very close, you shared many thoughts with each other. He is probably finding it hard to learn and accept the fact that you are not someone with whom he can just really speak with anymore, anytime. Old habits have a tendency to die hard. Please just give it some time and realize that this may be the reason why he is doing that. He should learn in time as he moves on with his life.

Concerning getting your stuff - he does have a right to be there. I know that it isn't easy, but just try to make time for when the two of you can be there and get it all over with. You may have to be the one to bend quite a bit in your schedule for this to be accomplished if he is not willing to bend his schedule in order to accommodate you. But, if you want it done and over, then just do the best that you can.

That's my opinion on the situation, anyhow. Hopefully, others will come along and add their insights to the situation.

He very well might want to do that. But, since she talks about him being an a$$hole and jerk, I kind of doubt it. But, we'll just have to see what rockerchick_682 has to say.

He's on and off with me, he'll get depressed every once in a while and tell me he loves me, but it's usually that he's done with me and he doesn't love me any more, and then I ask him why he told me he loved me and he just says he's a good liar, something like that. I'm done with him either way, I just don't get him.

You need to be able to set a time for you to get your stuff. Have a witness with you.

He sound paranoid and not wanting you to go there when he is not there, so you need be just as smart and not be alone with him when you are there to get your stuff.

Witnesses are important.

Thank you all for your answers, Clough, you made a good point, I never thought of it that way.

Make it at his best time, and make your schedule around his for that day. A friend as witness, is an excellent idea. The police as a threat if he refuses to co-operate usually lets him know your serious.

If he is giving you the stall act about your stuff, for whatever reason, then you pick your time, and go with a friend, when you know he will be there. If he act like a jerk, the police are an option.
