    NO Audio when DVD playing
Hi I have just bought a new DVD/Rw drive and am having a slightly annoying problem.

When I insert the dvd the video plays but there is no sound.

All of my drivers and codes are installed and up to date.

This is a mystery because I have the latest NERO 7 Essentials CD that came with the DVD burner, when I play it asks me if I want DOLBY decoder I have to download or upgrade to the latest version, I d/l the latest update but it has done nothing.

Besides why should I pay for a decoder when I already own the licence and Full program? This seems strange to me.

My media players which are all the latest <Nero,WMP,REAL,WINAMP> will play any existing VCD or vid files I have including the newer mpeg4/MP4 formats with great quality but I cannot watch friggin DVDS. I have even used recode essentials to reformat the dvds to Nero Digital with no luck.

The strange thing is that any DVD I have copied or reformatted to a different format works in my stand alone DVD player.WAT THA?

    This bites!

I have NVIDIA Nforce Audio onboard, no internal/external PCI soundcard and have my sound hooked up to my Yamaha digital receiver.

Several times I have noticed there is an option for DTS/Dolby and have enabled it but nothing works. I have tried changing it to default direct sound stereo, Dolby Two channel stereo,You name it I have tried it.

Also there is an option for S/PDIF and a socket for S/PDIF on the back of the tower. What exactly is this? And what sort of connector do I need to enable this?

Thanks to all the techies out there in advance.

Did you connect your audio cable from the DVD-RW to the motherboard

    Yes Benn I did indeed.

My problem is 80% solved, I d/l a program called AC3 Filter, here's the link.

    AC3Filter

I`m still a little confused as now Three of my media players play DVD with sound but Nero does not. And also it seems that half of the files/drivers/codecs that AC3 installed where already existing on my computer.

    ?

    Thanks again
