    Honda crx Timing belt marks
    Hi,
I have owned my 90 honda crx si d16a6 for almost 10 years now and have put 3 engines 1 tranny and long list of parts into this machine. No matter what I do it, no matter how challenging it seems, the one thing that seems to be an issue are the damn timing belt marks. Countless websites,(</title></head>"); newWindow.document.writeln("<body><div align='center'><img " + getWidth("yes") + "src='/images/cds/" + tpe + "/" + sze + "/" + pc + "." + tpe + "'></img></div>"); newWindow.document.writeln("<div align='center'><table><tr><td><FORM) manuals, pictures and friends tell me the same thing and somehow it still seems confusing when you look at the marks. Even had to learn the hard way once, about incorrect timing belt install, installed a belt one time and was off and bent 2 valves on number 1 cylinder. I just installed my 3rd and hopefully final rebuilt engine and runs OK but has some idling issues atm. I installed the engine last week and ran fine, rough idle but idled at normal speeds. I had a problem with the clutch so ended up pulling the engine back out and fixing that. At the time I pulled the timing belt off and readjusted it and lined it up according to the manual.( I did this because timing seemed little off, due to lack of power and rev up on engine.) Anyway, I get it back in and now idle is high 1500 or so and after warm up it will rev down to 700 or so then rev back up to 1500. It sometimes stops but when I touch the throttle it revs up and slowly comes back down, and will sometimes rev up and down. I am led to believe this is probably a timing issue. The belt just doesn't seem right to me. As u know the cam shaft has 4 marks on it. UP mark which is suppose to be at the 12 of clock position, 2 marks on each side, 1 at 3 o'clock and 1 a 9 o'clock and the third and final mark is around the 7 o'clock position. As for the crank is pretty easy, 1 mark lines up with 1 mark on the block, Simple. Anyway, the cam shaft has these 4 marks but according to any picture that I see, it contradicts what it says to do. For example, it says move UP mark to the UP position and align the 3 and 9 o'clock marks with the head. Also says to align the 7 align mark with a mark that is on a plastic timing belt cover piece. Well this is virtually impossible imo. Reason being because the engine is slightly leaned forward, so when you align the 3 and 9 o'clock marks with the head, and the 7 o'clock mark to its mark, the UP mark goes to around 11 o'clock. Leaving me scratching my head. My current timing belt alignment is just as it says and it seems off to me. But when I look at the UP markings I get worried its not right. Really sorry for long post but felt full explanation was only way to go. Thx in advance for any advice.

Hello, I didn't read how old this post is, but if you got it running well, I'm glad. Personally I've read numerous posts in forums about not torquing the intake manifold on right and the suckion is really high thus messing up your fuel and air mixture. You have an intake manifold bracket bolt, tighten that then tighten the intake manifold (I think the tq spec is 14ft/lbs). Hopefully that helped you even a little, you can email me at [email protected] for any further questions!
