Years after Bankruptcy, a monthly bill still coming
About seven or eight years ago, my husband lost his job. After nearly a year of not finding work and unsuccessfully trying to make ends meet, we were forced to file a Chapter Seven. Bankruptcy is not something we are proud of. Up until this time we had pristine credit. And since, have been slowly trying to build our credit image back up.
However, over the past seven years one creditor has continued to send us a monthly billing DEMANDING payment which also includes the rising interest each month. If we could pay them. We would. However, we are not able to take on another financial obligation.
We have repeatedly sent this creditor copies of the papers showing their name on the list. We have even gone back through the attorney who handled the bankruptcy and he too has sent several letters asking them to quit sending billings to us. But nothing seems to work. Each month the expected bill arrives.
What can be done? Anything? Isn't it against the law for them to continue sending us a demand for payment?
And if we continue to do nothing "legally" about it... Will they eventually have the right to come after what is owed them? Even though they were listed in the bankruptcy?
Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
