Hello,

I'm uncertain of the wire combination to hang the ceiling fan/light. In the ceiling box there is a single red wire, 3 black wired combined, 2 brown and 1 white wire combined. On the fan/light there are 1 red, 1 black, 1 white. The wall has a dimmer switch.

I connected the black/red from the fan to the red box wired, then the white from the fan to the brown/white box, but the fan/light didn't work, I shouldn't have blown a fuse since the radio worked on the same breaker when on.

Please give any insight you have with the best wire setup with the dimmer switch. Thanks a BUNCH!!

I don't think I blew a fuse because the radio worked on a near by outlet on the same breaker as the ceiling.

In the connection box on the Left side there are 2 main cables lets call them Cable A and B: Cable A: Brown, Black, copper and Cable B: Black, Red, White, copper. On the Right side of the connection box Cable C: Brown, Black, copper.

So twisted and capped together are 3 black wired combined, 2 brown and 1 white wire combined, a single red wire, copper combined. On the fan/light there are 1 red, 1 black, 1 white. The wall has a dimmer switch.

My comments on the brown wire, either your in Europe, which uses brown wire, because the voltage is 230 volts, or if your in the US or Canada, then I suspect the brown wire is suppose to be white.

Now, either the insulation has discolored from white to brownish due to age, which can happen, or, it is possible that the splice was loose and the insulation has discolored from overheating.

To err on the side of safety, this is something to investigate.

I'm in the US

If insulation is brittle and cracks easy(white wire turned brown), probably overheated.
If a dimmer, should control light only. If fan control, should control fan only.
The 2 brown and 1 white, connect to fan white. Fan black might go to 3 blacks(constant hot) for fan pull chain operation. Red from switch, to fan lite(Red). Likely.

Okay, I hooked up the fan black to black, white to white, red to red and nothing. Neither the fan or light would work. Please, please, please help me. All of the outlets in the room work when I turn the breaker on, but not the ceiling fan/light. I would appreciate any hints, help, or ideas. Thanks a BUNCH!!

That sounds to me like the correct way to wire it. Do you have a voltage tester? I suspect something is wrong with your neutral, since neither the fan nor light are working.

The light that was previously installed, did it work?

Stupid question but is there voltage at the switch(es) for the light and/or fan?

I GOT IT. I guess the wires are old. I had an open circuit. One of the Black wires spliced end broke off. So I just replaced and away I went. I'm glad it didn't work at first, I've learn a lot, including I'm EXTREMELY patient. Tomorrow I'm going to hang a celing fan I bought for my dads b-day - it will be a piece of cake.
