    Business mail
Is it right for the "boss" to open mail that is addressed to the company , but says Attention: someone else?
I don't know if he is reading it or not, sometimes it ends up being something personal that just ends up being mailed to my work address... like applying for M.A. sometimes comes to work because they have both addresses.

If it is listed for a certain someone and not for the company I don't think it is right or legal. But, I have no idea what the laws are on this so don't take my word on this :P. I still don't think it is right though.

I'll try and look it up and see if I find anything.

    Business mail cont.
The plot thickens. I just found out that our HR person opened it, read it, and showed it to at least one other person. Because it said Department of Corrections for the return address. This just infuriates me because it's one of those things you can't say much about because I'm going to be putting my butt on the line.
I really wouldn't want this to happen to me though. I would give my work address if I didn't want something like that mailed to my home.

All mail addressed to the company can be opened by officers of that company. Even if the envelope is marked "Attention: X" or has "Personal and Confidential", if it is addressed to the company, they can open it.

If the mail is addressed to an individual at the company's location, but not addressed to the company itself, there's a case for them not to open it - Especially if it is marked "Personal and Confidential".

    Hello t:

They own the computer. They own the email. If you don't want them to read any of your stuff, don't have your stuff mailed to your work.
