RE previous post on mortgage co. debt verification
This question goes along with my previous question about verifying a debt my mortgage company is claiming. I decided to give it one last try before contacting a lawyer, and they finally agreed to send me an itemized bill for the services they are charging me for. So, here's the question...
This bill is going to contain services billed from an outside agency (at least 1) to my mortgage co. When I ask that this debt be verified, as per my rights, do they have to provide me with a copy of an original invoice from outside agencies they used? What I am asking is, what must the verification consist of, what am I entitled to. What is their time limit for verification, and if they fail to verify all or part of this bill properly, how do I get them to drop it?
I'm worried about this, as I don't want to jeopardize my home, but at the same time, don't want to and can't afford to pay a debt I don't know that I owe, and these debts are most definitely questionable. Can my asking for verification cause any default, or must they give me the verification I am asking for, and then a chance to pay what ends up being verified before claiming I am late in paying? To make it perfectly clear... can the time in which I am waiting for verification that I am entitled to by law be used against me?
