What causes a sewer line to break
My wife and I are very close to buying a home that has a sewer line problem. The sellers have agreed to have it repaired at their expense (although the way I read a city ordinance, they NEED to repair it before selling). Anyway, it's stated in the disclosures that the sewer line had been repaired about 10 years ago. I'm wondering why it broke again just 10 years later. There are no big trees nearby, so I doubt roots are the cause. What else can cause a sewer line to break?
It's possible that the repair done 10 years ago wasn't done correctly, or is in a different spot from where the current break is.
