What causes a sewer line to break
My wife and I are very close to buying a home that has a sewer line problem. The sellers have agreed to have it repaired at their expense (although the way I read a city ordinance, they NEED to repair it before selling). Anyway, it's stated in the disclosures that the sewer line had been repaired about 10 years ago. I'm wondering why it broke again just 10 years later. There are no big trees nearby, so I doubt roots are the cause. What else can cause a sewer line to break?

It's possible that the repair done 10 years ago wasn't done correctly, or is in a different spot from where the current break is.

Impossible to come to a conclusion with out all the evidence. Material defect? Install done incorrectly? What caused the break the first time?

Yeah, I wish I had all the evidence. I guess I meant what things can cause a recurring break in the line? I'm under the impression that certain things cause this, and that it should last for longer than 10 years after repair.

Listen, my home is over 100 yrs and never a problem with lines breaking, if installed correctly it only leaves a act of god or material fault

Or an artesian well, or a home built on a flood plain, or a home built on a slide prone hill, or a home built above a recovered sinkhole...

    Hey, it happens.:D
