Smell in my cold water supply only not in hot side
I read a previous answer about smells in bathroom lavatory, I have the same problem but its only on the cold side and thur out the house. I am a California plumber and have ran into this problem before, replacing the water heater and flushing the water lines did the trick. Now my question is my plumbing is all copper and not pvc (if that matters?) could it be bacterial infestation and if so how dose that happen and how to avoid it. Is a clorine flush application a good idea in this case! The smell only last 2-3 seconds. And I've tested my drains and the smell is not coming out of the drain.

I have the same problem with my cold water. It smells musty coming out of the tap. I'm on county water and we have lowered water levels in my area. The county put out a statement warning us that the smell comes from the low level in our reservoir but the water's safe to drink and cook with. I live on the West Coast of Florida. Could this also apply to your area? Regards, Tom
