Replacing tub with walk in shower on concrete floor
I am in a condo with a 6 inch concrete floor and have removed the tub and notice the existing drain is a few inches off the floor whereas the drain in the shower base is about 3/4 of an inch from the floor and any drain asemblies I have seen are about 5 inches deep which means I have to cut into the concrete floor as I do not want to raise the base because it negates the benefit of a walk in shower. The drain in the base is 2 inches and the existing copper piped drain is 1 I/2 inches. Any ideas as to how I can minimize the amount of floor I have to cut out as I do not want to jeoprodize the integrity of the floor

"I notice the existing drain is a few inches off the floor" Are you referring to the trap or the raiser. Is the trap copper or cast iron. What material are your pipes made of? They make a shower base designed to replace a tub without having to move or reposition the trap and raiser although the raiser will have to be increased to 2" to pick up the shower drain. Interested? Good luck, Tom

    Hi Speedball1

Thanks for answering. The riser is copper and the drain and tub overflow(which will be removed) are brass. Who makes the base designed o replace tubs and who sells them? I can't increase the size of the drain I am in a condo isn't thwere a showerebase with a 1 1/2 inch drain?

Although I've never done it I guess it might be possible to bush the drain down to 1 1/2". To check out a shower base designed to replace a tub click on, Swanstone Retrofit Shower Floors
    Good luck, Tom
