Dog Won't Eat from a Bowl
My dog, a Shih Tzu REFUSES to eat from a bowl. She will eat off the floor or from your hand but not out of a bowl. She also won't eat off a plate.
I made a big mistake about a year ago - she wouldn't eat her kibble so I hand fed it to her in the morning. Then she started to refuse her evening meal (wet food).I catered to her & used a small plate. Now she won't eat off that. She will grab a treat out of the bowl and eat it elsewhere.
I talkd with her vet & started 5 days ago only feeding her from a bowl. For a few days, she ate the treat but nothing else from the bowl. I have stopped the treats. She has eaten nothing in 2 days. I have tried kibble & fresh grilled meat, etc.
They say a dog won't starve themselves but this one will. I love her but she is driving me crazy. I don't know what to do.
    Somebody help me, please.

Thank you, lab man. It took about a week but she is now eating from the bowl. Over the first few days, she would grab a treat from the bowl, run off with it & eat it elsewhere. Or a couple of big pieces of meat. So I stopped all treats (which are junk anyway) and finally got her eating out of a bowl. It was scary.
Now I have to work on the mix of food, getting her to eat more kibble. I think the biggest point of the thread for me, was do not overfeed. We had been free feeding her, (leaving food out at all times) which worked for several years but just got out of control. We had an elderly cat which was free fed & we had to free feed her so she wouldn't steal his food.
It worked in that she was never like some of the neighborhood dogs who will eat ANYTHING they can find. But it went too far the other way, with her refusing to eat from a bowl. Thank you for the reply.

Dogs that won't eat are very hard on their owners. Seldom a problem with Labs.
