    Property Taxes
My brother paid my mother's past property taxes last year. Now he claims that her property belongs to him (deed). Is this true for Florida? Nanc

Nope. Even if the taxes were in arrears he couldn't get ownership just by paying tax arrears.

Nope, I can be nice and pay her property taxes and all that happens is HER taxes get paid. Tell the lying dead beat to get a life and help her mom and stop trying to steal things. *** and this is about as nice as I can be for a man who would cheat and lie against their own mother.

But no, to get property for taxes, the court will have to sell the tax certificate at a auction, and he would buy them, after a redemption period, he could get a tax sale deed.

But the mom would have been notified of any tax sale and more. To double check the bother has not done something to cheat your mom, go to the court house and check the deed info.

I agree with Chuck about the dead beat. HE can't do anything at this point. Also your mother would've had to sign a Quit Claim Deed or a General Warranty Deed for the property to be transferred to his name. The deed would have to be signed in front of a notary also... so unless he forged it your mom might remember if any of that happened.
