    Movies about Mental Health
I am studying Psychology in school and we are suppose to watch a movie: The teacher gave an example of the movie "hannibal". Anyway, we are suppose to watch a movie like this and write an essay about it. Can you give me some names of some of these movies that I can watch and some examples of what to write about?
    Thank you,
    Ashley Garza

Actually, The Silence of the Lambs would be a good one. They go into detail on what the killer could be thinking and what he may do next. And Hannibal Lecter is always awesome!

Here is a whole list of movies for you : MovieGoods - Expanded Search for "Psychotics/Sociopaths" - Page 1

    I hope this helps :)

I would also recommend "The Vanishing" with Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock

I recently had to watch the movie A Beautiful Mind for my psychiatric rotation in nursing school. It is a wonderful true story about schizophrenia. You may want to give it a try.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest - a brilliant look at a psychiatic ward (in the 70s?). I think it is a good look at what is insanity - I'm sure you've had loads of lectures on what is normal/abnormal psychology and how it depends on societies/people's opinions. Even if you don't write your essay on it you should definitely watch it and I can't recommend the book enough either.

    Hope this helps :)

Saw, Hid and seek, The others, The libertine (might be too sexual for a school essay), Back draft, Basic instinct (that woman was crazy enough), The man with the iron mask, The nutty professor (you might be the only one with an essay based on a funny movie).

None of these movies really compare to Hannibal though. I would assume that since it’s a psychology class she wants you to write about a person in the movie that has some kind of mental disorder. So I would say you should do your own diagnoses of that person’s disorder and write about that and how you came to that conclusion.

Hate to say it... but that is a good list of movies and should be very helpful.

I think a great movie for a project would be "Falling Down." It has Michael Douglas as a person living in modern society (or modern about 15 years ago when it was made). Anyway he has a bad day and just snaps and goes nuts.

I will need some help with this one as I can't remember the name but there is a movie from the 70's where two guys hold up a bank and then it all falls apart and they wind up taking hostages and the movie is more about the main character losing his mind under the pressure of the situation. It's been years since I've seen it so I don't remember much more then that but somebody might know what I'm talking about.

And another one I might suggest would be "Dual" from 1971. As I recall there are no words spoken the entire movie but it's a film that will stay with you for years to come as it has me. The plot is about a guy being chased by a semi truck driver but the psychological messages of fear and facing it are the driving force of the movie.
