You are aware that there is Windows XP and now Vista, Using windows 2000 will get you in a number of problems especially when you are using new technologies.

The physical dump of memory occurs when a program interrupts with other programs, uninstall the pen drive drivers and install them again and if the problem continues search for driver updates. Also make sure that your windows 2000 has all the service packs installed.
