    Tie into existing pipe
Any suggestions on how attach a shower drain to a 3" stack pipe. I would just cut the pipe off an inch or so above the concrete, but there is a coupling at ground level! I need to cut the pipe, but didn't know of a way to attach back up. I went to the local hardware store and found a union for a 3" pipe. This would allow me to cut the pipe flush with the concrete and the union would insert inside the 3" pipe. Then I could continue on with my "Tee" to my shower. Is this an acceptable method? I really am not a big fan of chipping any concrete.

You need to go to a plumbing supply store rather than a local harware store. Most likely they will have what you need without the busted up floor.

I assume that you're going to platform the shower so you won't have to cut into the slab. What's the material of the 3" stack? It sounds like PVC? You do know that you'll have to run a vent off the shower don't you? I can tell you the fittings to purchase and walk you through installing them. The coupling will present a problem if you want your tee close to the slab. Why would you want to place a union on a stack. If the pipes are PVC then couplings do the job and if the stack's cast iron then No-Hub fittings and NO-Hub bands would do the trick. Give me more details and we'll talk. Regards, tom
