Inside a/c unit keeps shutting off after 30 min
I was wondering if anyone might know if there is an easy solution to my problem. My inside a/c unit (TRANE) started blowing very little cold air , and was making a louder noise than normal. So my husband shut all power off and took it apart to vacuum out completely, and replaced the filter. When he turned it on it ran perfectly and the noise was gone. We thought we had fixed whatever problem it was having however the unit keeps shutting off after about 30 minutes. No breakers are tripped... it just shuts off. And when he waits awhile and turns it on again it works fine for another 30 minutes and shuts off. He did say that the motor felt quite warm but didn't know if that was just the normal heat it makes. Any ideas out there? Thanks! TT

Probably the motor is overheating and going off on internal overlaod. When it cool down it resets and starts up again. Did he clean the squirral cage fan as well?

There is so many possibilities, I would hate to guess. I think it is time for a pro.

Sometimes I'm not totally satisfied by the NATE certification, (I've hired a few) but as far as a homeowners goes, it is the best you can do to make sure the service tech knows something. It is worth a few extra dollars to hire from companies that have tech's with this certification.

Yes, took it apart again and cleaned it with a dry toothbrush and vacuum. Put it together and started it up. Worked again for a little while then shut off again. Put the thermostat on the wall in every position I could think of. Fan on auto.. and on. System on auto... or cool. It didn't shut back on for about 10-15 minutes then turned back on for about 20 minutes then shut off. Could it be a problem with the thermostat? I don't know anything about that but was looking at others problems. Just can't figure out why its getting hot and shutting off (if that's the problem). Oh well... I'll get someone in to look. Was just hoping it was something more simpler that I could fix. Thanks a bunch.

My guess is that you have a bad motor or capacitor, but I agree with the above, you should call in a pro for this one.
