Iso files-burning to dvd with nero6
Hello everyone, pleased to join but need help re the following...

I have probs understanding iso files. Have downloaded what purported to be an iso file, but it is in rar format. Have un-rar'd it using winrar, but now unsure how to burn it as an image file to dvd using nero6. Nero doesn't appear to see the un-rar'd files as an iso file?
But it does recognise the original rar file. This question relates to installing linux on a PS3,
Though that may be irelevant to the issue of burning an iso file to dvd? Also, having un-rar'd the original file, I then find what appear to be further rar'd files which have not been converted by the first un-raring process. What needs to be done with them? I realise this is not a PS3 specific site, but have tried various of them with no luck so far. If anyone can clarify any of the above I would be very grateful...

    Kind regards in anticipation... Dave...

To use an ISO image, you need to burn it to a blank media. In Nero, go to the Recorder menu, and select burn image. Then browse to the where the ISO image is located on your hard drive.

Thanks for the input... but is the ISO image the same as the RAR image I appear to have d/loaded? My problem appears to revolve around the fact that having un-rar'd the file, Nero doesn't appear to see it as an iso file? When I do as you suggest. It only seems to see the RAR file as an image. Am I not using Nero correctly, or is what appears to be a RAR file actually the ISO file?

If your file is in multiple rar's, look for the first one, usually "filename.rar" or even "filename.r00". With Winrar properly installed, double-clicking on it should extract the file using all the rar parts automatically. Which should be in sequential order (i.e. . r00, r01, r02, r03, etc.)

An ISO file will generally have an ISO extension. RAR is a compressed format so the ISO file might be extracted from the RAR file. But I have to ask what is it you are trying to download. What you are describing is usually pirated software.

ScottGem... No its not pirated, at least I hope not. Its actually a d/load of YDL Linux for the PS3 console, from one of the Terrasoft mirror sites. Its all cosher and above board, its an officially sanctioned addition to the PS3, by Sony. If you can help in any way, would welcome your input...

    Regards... Dave.
