If someone comes to your home to serve you a court summons,what could it be from? I was not home at the time and they would not hand the summons to anybody but me.

Witness? Class action law suit? Probation violation hearing? Could be anything. You must appear regardless.

They must obtain proper service o fthe summons, if not can be dismiss for improper service and any rule or order would be void.
