    Ceiling fan directional switch wiring
I received a fan/ light combo from a family member that had a broken pull chain for the fan. I replaced the pullchain switch. I figured out most of the wiring except for one extra wire. On the directional switch, the white wire goes to neutral group but the grey wire is not tied in anywhere. My other fan (different make/model) has it tied in with grey to the capacitor with many wires going to it. However, the fan in question has a capacitor with only two wires, red to red and white to white. As I did not disconnect the wires, I am unsure where to tie this one back in. I already have a blue and white wire for the fan. Thank you for any help provided.

Grey is often 1 on the pullchain.

How many wires does your reverse switch have, what colors, and where do they go?

It has 6 wires, the pink and yellow on top as well as on bottom, then a white going to neutral connection, then the grey was disconnected, not sure where it goes. The capacitor only has 2 wires, the white I think goes to neutral and a red connected to another red going back up to fan motor. The pull chain I replaced has a black coming from motor area, a grey to grey, a brown to brown and purple to purple, all going back into fan motor area.

I believe the grey goes next to the white. Like this:

Yellow or pink - - pink or yellow
    Whites - - grey
Pink or yellow - - yellow or pink

Yes, I know the grey goes next to the white on the directional switch. But where does it connect on the other end of the grey wire?

That I can only guess. Usually it's color coded-- are there any other grey wires it could connect to.
