I just got Gizmo, a 4 m/o pom yesterday.
He's up to date on his shots/vaccinations and is in healthy condition.
He's AKC registered, and from a good trusted breeder.
I was wondering if any one had any tips on how to make him feel a bit more at home?
Since he's only been here a day I don't expect him to be his regular self right away.
I have two huskies and they were shy when I first got them too.
The breeder said he's deffinately playful, but he's not done much at all since he got here.

When I got home I made him a bed on the floor by ours and let him explore... only he just stood there staring at me until he eventually got tired, and decided to sit down, then laid down and went to sleep. Lol

I took him out last night to piddle and he did eventually urinate, so I praised him greatly for that after having to wait for what seemed like a life time. He's eating and drinking as he should and seems to be fine. Im assuming it's just a case of the nervous jitters I suppose.

Does any one know any tips or ideas on how to get the newest member of the family to feel a little more at ease, and at home?
Possibly any tips on how to bring out his playful side?

The 4 months is a red flag to me. Even a ''good, trusted breeder'' may fail to understand the importance of early socialization. Finding a good breeder and purchasing a puppy that will make a good pet is very difficult. Almost nobody is intentionally breeding dogs to be nice pets. Most of your so called reputable breeders are breeding for show or something. They may say the puppies they don't keep for their purpose make great pets, but the truth is that the parents were selected for other than health and temperament. Often they keep the puppies in the kennel too long and they miss the important early socialization puppies need to live in the house with people.

Given time and plenty of affection, it may quickly adjust. It should relate to the Huskies. If it sees them relating to you, it may follow suit. The Huskies may be looking for more attention for m you too for reassurances about their place now this stranger moved in. Give them plenty of attention too. Do not leave the new puppy with them until you are sure they are accepting it.

Gizmo's now getting use to the place a little more. I took him outrside and he had a blast romping around and checking out hisnew yard!
He now wanders the room rather often.
He's obviously not use to the 'come' command yet, but it will of course, take time and patience.
I appreciate the help you two, and I will try and contact the breeder about toys and what not. =]

The pet stores are full of toys that many dogs will quickly chew up into
Pieces they could choke on or cause intestinal blockages. If you are not
There to watch, stick to sturdy stuff such as Nylabones and Kongs. Keep a
Close eye on chew toys and quickly discard anything that is coming apart in
Pieces. This includes nubbins of otherwise safe toys. I avoid consumable chews because they quickly are reduced to a dangerous size. Rawhide is especially bad because it swells after being swallowed.
These problems are the worst with, but not limited to, large, aggressive
Chewers such as Labs.

Ropes from the pets' store quickly turn to hazardous shreds. Ones I made
Lasted much better. Go to a hardware or home center that sells rope by the
Foot. Buy 2' of 3/4" poly rope. Melt the ends, and tie knots in it. Get
Them as tight as possible, put it in a vise and pound it with a hammer. Watch
Carefully, and be ready to discard when it comes apart.

Gismo's still not playing though. I'm hoping it's just him missing his brothers and sisters and being in a new place. It is after all, only his second day here so...
I've been trying my best to make him feel at home.
I got him a rubber squeaky toy and a squeaky toy shaped like a bone.
No prevail though. He just lays there and stares at you like you're some sort of tard for waving it in his face lol.
he's a happy little boy, smiles often, as the pom breed is known for. But still a little reluctant about wandering the house.

Squeaky toys are fine for some dogs, but deadly for others.

well, I took the advice from the web ( which most is inacurate but this seemed true enough) and got toys that could not be too small to swallow. At this point in time I guess it won't do him much harm as he won't touch toys lol.
I'll keep them put away until I am around to try and see if you feels pleased with them later on.
The most I can do at this point and give him lots of loves and cuddles, and try and make him feel as comfortable as possible. =] it may take a while but its truly worth it!

We finally got him to nibble a little bit on his blue squeak bone!
Not a lot but hey it's a start!
I must go now to take him out for a potty, break.
