Miscarriage
My wife is pregnant but has low HCG and is concerned she will have a miscarriage. She has had a miscarriage three months ago and is worried this is the cause
My question is, is HCG treatable and increase to normal levels?
How far along is she? I've done a little research for you and this is what I've found :
The HCG hormone peaks to its highest levels between 8 and 11 weeks of the pregnancy. Then the level slowly decreases, lowering at 12 weeks and again at about 16 weeks of the pregnancy. The HCG level remains lower until several weeks after the birth of the baby. As the HCG levels lower, the maturing placenta takes over the role of producing other hormones to support the pregnancy (at around 12 weeks).
So in other words, your HCG level fluctuates depending on how far along you are.
The first day of her last period was 15th May, not sure how long this makes her pregnancy.
Do you know if low HCG is treatable to increase levels during pregnancy?
I haven't found anything so far that says its treatable. It is for a.m. here so time for bed for me, but make sure you log on here tomorrow because I PROMISE I will do some more research for you okay? People always ask me to research things for them because apparently I'm good at it :) I'll be back tomorrow. Keep your head up :)
Hcg is a naturally occurring hormone during pregnancy. There is nothing one can do to increase or decrease it.
Here are the Lab Values for Hcg
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :

4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml

Hope this helps.
