    Life Insurance
I was just wondering what if any, does the person who receives the life insurance money have to do. Here's the run down. My Grandmother passed away in early dec 06. My grandpa thought because they had been married and she had told him that her life insurance was in his name that he would be getting it. So he signed off on the 13k funeral and bought the burial lots in advance and started paying her left over bills off. Well after he signed all of this it was found that the life insurance was not in his name it was in her two kids' name. (step grandmother by the way) and they took the 75k life insurance money and ran with it. I think that they might have paid the funeral bill. But what about all of her other bills, & my grandpas and her old house. She was on the loan first there is still 95k owed on the house, what Im asking is are the reliable to pay anything since they are the ones who underminded him and just took off with all of the money that was suppose to be paying her left over debt. State Of Ohio... btw

Nope, they don't have to do any thing with the life insurance money but RUN. They are free to do anything they want.

Life insurance goes to the person and is not part of the estate if the named person is alive.

But no there is no legal responsibility for them to pay these bills.

Since they did not promise to pay, I am not even saying they have any moral duty for getting the money. But because this is their dad, they do have a moral duty to help him,

But nope you can't force them.
