Change of name due to marriage.
    Hi,

I am on H4.Immediately after coming to USA I applied for TIN number and I know my TIN number. But I changed my last name to my husbands after 1 year.So each time when my husband files for tax returns in online we are using the old last name because if I try to use the new name we are getting an error "name not correct".So we used the old last name.I want to change my last name in IRS records to new last name. How can I do that?

How can I get the new tax identification number with new name. Please provide me information regarding this question as soon as possible.Thank you.

You CAN and SHOULD apply for a new ITIN to chane the name on the IRS records. Just submit a new W-7 with your 2007 tax return. Of course, this means you will NOT be able to file electronically. You have to decide if it is worth the trouble.
