Roommate leaving- is a verbal agreement for the time she will pay rent binding in OHIO
I live in Ohio.
My husband and I allowed a friend to move in to our house until she got back on her feet.
Well, she's on her feet, makes plenty of money, never paid her rent on time, etc... general roommate horrors.
Now, we asked her to leave about two weeks ago and that she be out by mid July or early August.
She found an apartment and signed the lease. According to her, she couldn't pay her entire rent for May ($350). She pays after the month passes, and she gave us $200. She then told us that she would pay the rest at some later date.
My husband told her that he expects the remaining $150 for May's rent and $150 for the time she lived in our house in June by July 15.
The problem is, if we have to take her to small claims court, we're not certain that a verbal agreement is binding in Ohio. We don't know if we should, perhaps, have her sign something. Does anyone have any idea?
And, if I call an attorney to ask that question, will I have to make an appointment and go in or can I just call and ask?
