Hi. I'm replacing a shower that was a one-piece moulded unit. It leaked, so I bought a replacement unit to install. All is fine, except when I go to connect the drain. The trap and drain is 1 1/2" pipe and there is a nut at the top of the pipe. The drain that I have is for a 2" pipe and is designed to go over a 2" pipe. The male part of the drain (that inserts through the shower base) is very close in size, but will not thread into this nut. Is there some way that I can get a proper fitting to fit into this nut without having to tear out the pipe and put in a 2" pipe?

I can't find anything at my local home depot and am going to head to a plumbing supply store tomorrow. Please help.

... didn't have a 1 1/2" to 2" adapter or hub? The plumbing store should have something for you. Even the traditional hardware stores will offer something that will ease the amount of rework.

Will the drain from the old unit fit the new unit? Usually you have a flange at the top, and a nut underneath. If the flange is anyway near the recess in the new unit, you should be able to unscrew the old drain, and use it with the new one.

If you buy an adapter, watch pipe sizes. A 1 1/2'' pipe is about 1 3/4'' OD and a little over 1 1/2'' ID.

You'll have to get an 1"1/2 to 2" adaptor. Good luck!
