    What size laminated beam?
I removed A door and a window from the back exterior wall of my home exiting into a sunroom. They both had separate headers meeting on a supporting post of three 2X4's.

I want to remove the supporting post and put one 9' laminated beam under the headers but do not know the width and thichkness to buy.

    I am also planning to:
    (1) drill a 1" hole through the door header near where it meets the window header
(2)Drill the same hole at the same height through two 4X4' one on each side of the door header.
    (3) Put a 1" steel rod through the 4X4's and header.
    (4)Repeating for the window headers
    (5)Removing the supporting post
(6)Placing the new beam onto 4X4's under the headers.

Do you think this will work for temporary support to place the beam?

This Isn't Code But You'll Be Fine With A 2x10 Header, Doubled With A 1/2 Osb In The Middle. 2x4 On Top And Bottom. If Your House Was 2 Story It May Be A Different Story, But You'll Be Fine
