    6.0 Powerstroke Diesel Problem
I own a 2004 F-250 Super Duty 6.0 Powerstroke Diesel with 28K miles that is giving me problems. The truck will be running fine and just cut out. It will almost completely quit. I can let off the throttle and then get back in it and it will very slowly regain speed. I can push the accelerator to the floor and it makes no difference. It will only take the fuel at a slow rate and it will not downshift. I can kill the engine for a few minutes and restart it and everything works proper. I have had it back to the dealer several time and they can not find the real problem. The last two times they have removed and cleaned the EGR valve and told me it was carboned up. I don't think they look any further after that. I keep very good maintenance and keep the water drained from the fuel system more than required. No lights or warnings come on when this happens. Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    CCC

Do you change your fuel filter every 10,000 miles? If your EGR valve is getting dirty with only 28,000 miles on the truck, I would switch to full-synthetic diesel engine oil.

Your problem might be transmission related, too. I would change the transmission fluid and filter. On my Ford, it was amazing all of the crud that was in the bottom on the pan, when I changed the transmission fluid and filter at 29,000 miles. Engines and transmissions are closely linked these days, via the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and solenoids. It may even be PCM or solenoid-related.

I've had on 03 & 04 truck with the 6.0. Same problem as you describe in both trucks. Ford finally figured out the turbo was cracked in mine. This happened the first week I had the truck. Now its doing it again. I'm selling mine, will never own another Ford product. They have been no help. It is pathetic to buy a 40 thousand dollar truck and not be able to use it.
    Good luck
