    antique lawn mower
I have a riding mower, rear steering, front mount 36" in deck mfg by Winchell Mfg. model 6B or 68 3077 ( didn't have my glasses) its in great shape, red, running briggs and stratton motor all orig except maybe the gas tank. To go in reverse you throw a lever and turn the steering wheel 360 degrees.

It was made by Winchell Mfg Co, Fort Scott Kansas.

My father in law bought it at a antique farm auction 7-8 years ago near Dayton Oh now he wants me to sell it on eBay.

Is there any information about this mower and its value?

    Thanks

    Mike Greene

That lawnmower was made by the company that my Grandfather owned - on my mothers side. Lawrence J Winchell, supposedly invented the first blade mower instead of the rotaries we are all used to seeing back in the 40's and 50's.
Not too sure if it's worth anything to anyone. I have two others that we saved when my father passed away, that he had in the garage. I might be interested in it if you want to sell it.
The largest one was a model called "Mowbuggy" - 72" cut 4 blades with a 10 horse Clinton engine that two outside blades folded up gull wing style. I have a 21" self propelled model.
The engine on that model should be a Clinton, but may have had a Briggs gas tank adapted to it. It has been modified, with that front wheel in the center of the blades, the original wheels were two small 4" solid rubber on each side under the deck.

If I could find it, I have a sales brochure (1 page) that shows that model and most of the others he made. The company was sold to Gravely Mfg back in the late 50's (1957 I want to say but I was young at the time.

TLEdwards, I would appreciate if you would email me at [email protected] about the Winchell Mfg Co. I am trying to put together a company history with an old employ and could use any information you could give us. Thanks, Paul

I recently found some literature on these mowers my grandfather made, some pictures too that were with my parents stuff. I couldn't figureout how to place the pics here so I made a page on our website for them for briggsplanet. Hope this helps people that run across these.
