Can your name on your birth certificate be different than your social security card ?
I'm having this problem now and I am a newly married muslim American. I've tried several times do a simple driver's license transfer from PA to GA. When I received a copy of my birth certificate, I found out that my non custodial father changed my last name for religious reasons. He never completed this name change with the soc sec admin. My PA driver's license has my original last name as I obtained all my IDs with my original birth certificate.

After being misinformed several times by Georgia dot reps on what steps I need to take. I've given up and just renewed all my PA ID's and registration. Costly, because I still have to get this straight. Why should I have to go all of the way back to PA to change my name.

And oh yeah my husband has the same last name. So why should I have to pay for this??

You need to go through the social security office to straighten it out.
