I have an older 16.5 hp Briggs and Statton riding mower,and have had the starter rebuilt. I was told that before I put it back on the mower I need to have "The Valve" turned or it would be pointless.My question is what valve needs to be turned and where is it located.I am assuming I would takr the valve to a mach. Shop or??

Briggs and stratton advises valve adjust every 200hours? That would have no effect on the starter failing. I would put the starter on and try it.. . If it is not broke don't fix it.

Unless what the person was saying was that your compression is too high and is wearing out your starter prematurely.? They could have been suggesting reseting the valves for this reason.
