    Foul smell from sump pump
We have a smell coming from our sump pump but only when it rains, which causes
Flooding around our house. The smell goes through out the whole house. I don't know
What can be done about this. Is there some type of hood for the sump pump? We have
2 sump pump holes. The one runs about every 2min during rainy days. The water is
Clear so it isn't stagnant water. I don't know what to do.

Is this a open sump? If so, then consider closing it off, putting a lid on the pit and venting it. Regards, Tom

Is it a sanitary sump basin or simply a hole in the ground to catch ground water?

Yes, this is an open sump pit. Actually, there are two sump pits being used.

Sometimes the ground 'sours'. I don't know what causes it but it smells bad and the rain disturbs it and brings it up.
