What are some good methods for making a hand-made picture frame? This one is for a larger canvas that I painted. I want some ideas for putting a frame around it.

Hi, Momma!
I make most of my own picture frames. There are various ways that you can to this. It would help to have certain tools, though.
I knew you would be the first one to respond here!
What type of tools?
Okay, a miter box or electric miter saw would be a good start. If you have a miter box, then you would need, I think that it's called a cabinet maker's saw. It has fine teeth and is rather short in length.
Of course you will need carpenter's (wood glue). A glue gun will also work in certain instances.
There are just so many ways though...
How large and thick is the canvas and what were you thinking as far as a frame for it, please?
I don't want to make a wooden frame. I just want something to put around the edge of the canvas to add some interest to it, because it's simply just green paint and a phrase in white lettering.
I don't know the size, but it's about 3 inches thick
Then how about some lace edging of some kind or maybe even fancy rope?
THREE INCHES THICK! What kind of canvas is it?
That's what I was thinking... I was thinking about crocheting a border, or even like some some sort of oragami... I don't know, help me!Quote:

Thanks!
Exactly.
Sure, here you go.

That's right, "Too Good To Be True"!! It hangs over my bed!
Hey, Momma!
Just in my opinion, the front part of it doesn't need anything, but the sides do.
Is that what you are meaning, something for the side edges of it?
Yup!
You could use a 3 inch wide patterned or plain ribbon. I have a painting in which the artist used a plaid ribbon that picked up the colors in the painting. Looks really cool and interesting.
Just my 2 cents but you could also use a rope, braided cord, chain, braided ribbon, fabric trim, etc.
