We just installed a new Price Fister faucet in our kitchen sink. The lever that turns the water on doesn't stay up unless you hold it (up is on, down is off). We can't lift the handle halfway to get only a little water because the handle falls to the off position immediately. Is there a screw to tighten or something? We have great water pressure.

Your Price Pfister deck faucet has a 947-570 cartridge. `There are no adjustments to tighten up the action. I had the same problem when I installed my new kitchen deck faucet. Turned out the cartridge was lubed with silicon jel. After a week or so the jel washed away and the "O" rings swelled up a bit and it stayed up just fine. Any how, in time your lever will stand up just fine too. ( does this sound like a ad for Viagra?)

I don't think that's it. We've had the faucet installed for about 6mo now and it still does the impotent action thing.
If there's no screws to tighten, any other ideas?

I fixed it! It didn't need a new cartridge. Under the loop handle there's a logo button. The button pops off and there's a small screw in there. A turn of that screw and I'm good.

You are a genius! I have a plumber scheduled for tomorrow to fix several things, including my Price Pfister kitchen faucet, which keeps falling down and shutting off. I pulled off the logo and tightened the screw--it works now!! Thanks so much!

I too had this problem on a Price Pfister kitchen faucet that was just installed and found this item via a Google search. From all appearances that screw only holds the handle to the cartridge stem, but I tightened it a bit and it seems to have solved the problem. Earlier today I submitted a question about this to P-F and it will be interesting to see what they say.

P-F said the fix would probably not last long and they were right. They are supposed to be sending a replacement cartridge and nut.

It's Feb 2011 and I found this thread while Googling for a similar problem (faucet handle drops / shuts off water off.) My experience / opinion: I believe PF telling customers they need a new cartridge is a ruse. I recently (i.e. less than 3 mos) just replaced (again) the cartridge, and the handle's already starting to drop / shut off the water again. The issue seems to be with the set screw that others have alluded to. Tightening the screw (requires a small Allen wrench to do it) seems to help for a short period... but that's where I'm convinced the problem is poor design. As long as PF will keep sending free cartridges (and you can deal with the frustration of changing the cartridge for short term 'fix')... knock yourself out. I'm going with a different faucet brand.

I'd have to agree with that 100%, Askmerick.

They were right about removing the small round plug. You can then access a small allen head nut that when you tighten it the handle works correctly... no more having the handle fall when you try to use it at a slow flow setting. Easy... tighten the allen head and replace the plug and all is well.

Oh. My. GOD. THANK YOU! That's been bugging me for AGES and I couldn't figure out how to fix it! You just saved me a lot (more) time and money!
