    Your best bet is to visit your local library, a local or county historical museum, or the county clerk's office (or all three) where there may be records of the address in question as to unusual occurrences.

    Offers 5 steps and a few resources to find out if anything bad has happened at an address. Though it mentions CA law the information is useful in any state. I really hope you find it helpful!

    And if you don't weant to click on the link a few things it suggests are talk to the neighbors, I'd suggest asking the current owners as well, ask the police for call-out records( times they were called to the home), search online and in person data bases of local TV and newspaper archives, ask the real estate agent ( depending on the state they may be required to disclose information), check city hall or deeds office at the county courthouse for ownership and lien information.
