Induction fan for a carrier 48gp
I have replaced the induction motor from my carrier 48gp. The guy that took it out (HVAC "freind") will now not answer the phone. I have the unit bolted in and I know where a couple of the wires go, but I need help with the others. There is a yellow, green (ground), brown, and purple coming off the fan assembly its self. I do not have any clue where the purple wire goes. Can you help??

Is it the right fan? It has a extra wire that the other did not have?

If it does have an extra wire what do I do??

Most fans have the same bolt pattern, this does not necessarily mean it is the right fan, some fans are for 2 stage gas valves thus the 3rd wire.

Does the motor have a wiring diagram label present? The brown suggests a capacitor may be required.

No I got the motor from a wholesale yard they would not give me any instructions because they do not sell to the public

Is there ANY nomenclature (brand, mfg. #, h/p, voltage, r.p.m. etc.) on the motor?

The part is from the carrier replacement parts div. The fan is bolted in so I do not have it next to me at this time

    Green grounded
Yellow is hooked to a set of four prongs sitting to the right of the mother board (capacitor?)
And the brown is hooked into the mother board at the top right

    Is this a package unit?

You are taking quite a gamble if you power this motor without verifying correct wiring. It could be a 2-speed motor as Josh said, or it may require a capacitor (the brown lead suggests it does). If you release the genie from the motor, you will never catch him.
