    This cheats: february 29 1916 - Wolfram|Alpha

You have to check evenly divisible by 4, 400, and 100 if I remember right, but I forget the 400 and 100 tests, but they don't apply here.

If the number is evenly divisible by 4, then it was a leap year
    1916 divided by 4 equals?
If there is no remainder than it was a leap year.
In other words, if 1916 is a multiple of 4 than it is a leap year.

    Greta:

Evenly divisible by 4 works in this case, but doesn't work for some years. February 29, 1900 was NOT a leap year, yet it's evenly divisible by 4. february 29 1900 - Wolfram|Alpha

It was part of a programming assignment or may one I did in high school. Here is the creiteria: How to Determine If a Date Is in a Leap Year Using ASP

Divisible by 4, 400 and 100 pay a part like I said in post #2.

Alty,I got your point, but not so clear can you give me examples of 400 and 100I love to learn this. Basic was taught by my Dad some 40 odd years ago. Thenafter I never needed that knowledge.

    February 29, 2000 WAS a leap year.

It is divisible by 4 (Makes it a possible leap year)
And 100 (makes it a possible non-leap year) evenly.

Since it's evenly divisible by 400 it IS a leap year.

And to make the discussion complete, there is the "leap-second". See Leap second - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
