I can start my mower and it will run for a short time then for no apparent reason it just dies. I can wait a few minutes and it will start again and then repeat the cycle.
What is going on. Could it be a defective fuel cutoff valve?

First I would check the gas cap. If the little hole in the cap gets clogged it will cause these symptoms.

My mower will start as long as the clutch is mashed, but when I let up on the clutch or put the pto on it will stall. Can you tell me what I can do to fix this?

This is usually a symptom of a bad or disconnected seat safety switch.
