How long does vicodin last in your system
I recently had surgery and am prescribed vicodin. I am still in pain. How long does vicodin stay in my system? After how many hours can I take another dose?

    Perito

It will stay in your system for several days. However, the effective dose is gone much more quickly. I responded in your other post, also.

Here's a thread where the same question was asked:

How long does it take to get Vidocin out of your system?

Vicodin should be taken ever 4-6 hours as needed for pain. NO more often than that.

    KISS

    I'll add to J-9's answer:

Vicodin comes in various strengths. The biggest problem is the Aceteminophen content. It was 4000 mg per day.

The maximum daily dose of aceteminophin was set at 4000 mg/day and the FDA wants to reduce that. That's your biggest issue and is the second number after the first. So, if you had a 7.5-500 it would be 7.5 mg of hydrocodone and 1000 mg of aceteminophen.

Hydrocodone, since it's an ithe maximum dose is usually individualistic. High does cause respiratory depression.

It should start to work within 40-60 min

The 1/2 life is 4 hours, which means half the dose is gone in that time.

It's important with pain management to take the meds prior to the pain getting intense. You'll require less meds for the same amount of pain relief.

Vicodin should be out of your system by 5 * 4.8 hrs or ~25hrs
