    How democratic was Andrew Jackson?

See this link: Andrew Jackson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also keep in mind that what democrat was back then is far different that what a democrat is today.

For example, back then, slavery was acceptable. Treating blacks and women as less then white men, was acceptable.

So in today's standards, he looks very conservative, but back then, not so much.

Keep that in mind when you evaluate someone's performance in the context of history.

The way you wrote that it looks like you are saying that condoning slavery and prejudice are characteristics of modern conservatives.

Really? That is what you got from it? How?

I just re-read it and I don't know how I came off as that.

I just mean what Andrew Jackson stood for, if in today's world, he would be considered on the conservative end. Not a conservative like George Bush, but someone far more to the right.

I understand that wasn't really your point. But if you look at it you say what was acceptable at that time, therefore he held those views, therefore today he would be a conservative. I guess I made the mental leap from "back then X was acceptable" to "andrew jackson thought X was acceptable". We both know that's not what you were saying I just found the wording amusing I guess.
