My disk drive has stopped reading all types of discs?

I have run the Microsoft fix and associated advice on install/reinstall.

Still nothing. It whirs. That is all. Then ejects.

Take it back to the shop?

I assume you mean your OPTICAL drive, i.e. CD/DVD drive.
Sounds like it's failed, so time for a replacement.
Either buy one or it would be covered under warranty.

Nothing ever burnt to disc or uploaded.
Less than 20 films watched too.
