    F3 code on Kenmore oven
Our Kenmore oven is showing an F3 error code with the oven door locked. I turned off the power for ten minutes and then back on with no luck. The readout says "cool" but the oven's upper element is still on and the door still locked. I turned the power off about fifteen minutes ago. Door still locked. Heading out to church so will leave the power off until we get back.

    Ideas?

Always start with your model number. Then you can plug it in and get specific instruction, or access the online manuals here

OK. Back home from church. Plugged in the oven and turned on the breaker. The readout said read the time as it usually does. Nothing about bake or otherwise showed up, yet the upper oven element was on. Strange. None of the videos seemed to address that.

Check the broiler element as per the repair clinic link

    Cause 4 Broil Element

If the broil element is shorted out, the oven may not turn off. Often, if the element has shorted out, it will be visibly damaged. Inspect the broil element for holes or blisters. To determine if the broil element is shorted out, use a multimeter to test the element for continuity. If the broil element shows continuity from the terminals to the outer case, this indicates that it is shorted out. If the broil element is shorted out, replace it.

Where is my model number?Your model number is on a plate, in one of these locations:

Handy tip - Make it easy on yourself! Use your smart phone to take a picture of the model number tag.

Go over all the causes just as a good practice. Videos Start with this one.

That one seemed to describe our problem perfectly, which is a bad relay on the control board. That calls for a new control board, which as far as I have been able to find out is a 300 dollar purchase. Rather than do that, and still face the chance that we did not yet replace everything that needed replacing, we're just going to go the new route. Stove is 15 years old, so maybe it's time.

    Thanks for the help!
