What Is the Scientific Name for the Process When Thin Pieces of Metal Are Bent?
    Hi, All!

I was told what it was called years ago by a band instrument repairman when he was removing some dents from my tuba. Have long since forgotten it.

    Anyone know what it's called?

    Thanks!

    No takers for this, yet?

I know that there's a name for it. I just can't remember what it is.

    Thanks!

I don't know how it is called, but I found this:

Metalworking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    And perhaps this too:

    Okay. I'll check them out.

If it helps any, what I'm particularly looking for would concern sheets of brass.

    Thanks!

The following site doesn't give the specific name of the repair process, but I wonder if it at least decsribes the process you're thinking of? Note that it mentions repairing a tuba.

    Another article here:

How to Remove Dents from Brass Instruments | eHow.com

It talks about a "dent burnisher" to remove any bumps after the main dent is repaired.
