    Wax on, wax off?
OK, when I was younger, girls who shaved above their knees were considered "sluts". I risked it and shaved my thighs, too. Then it was pretty obvious when higher cut swimsuits and lingerie came in style that you had to do a little more shaving than that. Now it seems a lot of women are going to aesteticians to be waxed... completely... Brazillian. On the radio the other day, they were saying that women under 45 were all getting waxed completely? I find that hard to believe. I mean, I just don't think they do. Pain. More pain when it grows back in. I knew about brazilian waxes and that some girls do it, but I thought it was the minority of women who are willing to spend the money, go through the embarrassment and endure the pain.

So, I'm wondering from both the men and the women, what's the deal here? Is this a new expectation now? How mainstream is this? Obviously not a question I'm going to ask at a party with the neighbors and our kids, but I'm dying to know how common this is.

I don't think waxing is embarrassing! I think having stray hairs is what's embarrassing. I am a 20 year old female and I would definitely get a wax if I were going to wear a high cut swimsuit or any piece of clothes for that matter. I don't think that it's so much women wanting to use wax as it is women NOT wanting to shave or nair or whatever other hair removal procedures there are. Shaving doesn't have as clean and smooth of a finished look as does waxing. And not only that, but shaving is risky in the sense of cutting (nicking) and razor burn. Not only is razor burn painful and itchy, but it also is misleading. It can cause onlookers to think that you have an STD or infection of some sort. Now THAT would be embarrassing! Also, waxing is a more expensive approach to hair removal than shaving/nairing, but a more affordable approach then laser electrolosis and other cosmetic surgeries out there. Waxing is really not as big of a deal as you think it is. And I think that is what the bulk of your post is really about. You think it's crazy because you've made up in your mind somewhere that waxing is like... the devil or something... lol... but it's used much more commonly than you think.:D

Know, I think it's OK - I was just surprised how popular it's become and that I'm hearing it's the norm because it sounds expensive and painful... and like a weird place to have a beautician working on you. It's just foreign to me, I guess.

I was shaving my bikibi line in the 60s (dont know what your age is) and I don't think any woman who did was considered a slut. After that I wanted all my pubic hair off so got in the habit of using a depilatory like Nair, Neat, etc. I removed all hair with a depilatory, legs, underarms, etc.

I don't know about waxing, I don't need it, but it is very popular and has been for the last 20 years or so for all areas. The first one is painful but after that it is moderately painful but does such a great job.

Not sure your age, but yes the swim suits and shorts in the 60's did not leave much to hide and it started more regularlly then.

But yes, it is not only popular, common but considered the fashion thing to do, Remember ladies on min wage do not afford these places.

But yes it is very very common, I do not know the percent of women but there would not be dozens of places in major cities doing it, charging unheard of amounts of money if it was not popular.

And slut, that has to do with their sexual behavior not how they shave.

Reminds me of a old Othodox priest that told me one time that no priest can ever be at the alter unless they had a full beard, it was a unforgivable sin.

Far more women shave completely down there than actually get a full Brazillian wax. Actuall percentages? I don't know but I have found that more women I have spoken with do rather than don't up to about 50 where the reluctance overtakes their willingness to go for it.

Its popular, looks great and is does drive most of us guys nuts. Yeah there are a few guys that like hairy women but most of us appreciate the effort women go to to keep things smooth for us if not for themselves.

Wife started doing it at my request many years ago, keeps it smooth and asked me to do the same for her.

Seems like it is a huge fad right now... among those who enjoy a lot of fellatio and cunnilingus, and not so much copulation. I think that viewing pornography with the groomed male genitals and virtually hairless females has influenced many people.
