So what's so stimulating about this package?
According to The Wall Street Journal and The Heritage Foundation, here are some of the highlights from the legislation approved by a 244 to 188 margin:

$7.7 billion for various upgrades and work done on federal buildings
$5.2 billion for voter fraud experts ACORN and other "neighborhood stabilization" groups
$2.4 billion for carbon capture projects
    $1 billion for AMTRAK
$650 million--more--for coupons for the conversion to digital television
    $600 million for federal automobiles
$400 million for research into global warming
$335 million for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases
$50 million to the National Endowment for the Arts

Madam Pelosi can't take her 200 empty seat jet to California and has to use a smaller jet. Oh, I guess the taxpayers rebelled against paying $60,000 one way for her. How tragic. Next thing could be her actually getting on a real airplane in First Class.

ACORN gets $5.2 BILLION dollars? Sounds like somebody's getting paid back for their "help" in getting someone elected... Huh?

Could someone please enlighten me as to just why this is a stimulus package and not a stacked pork package benefiting a selected few? Somehow I'm not able to discern just how this is going to stimulate anything, let alone the American economy...

There is less actual "infrastructure " jobs in this bucket list than was spent in Boston for the "big dig" .

First off, please remember that that 288 for vote was 100% partisan and the 188 was bipartisan. That's right 11 democrats stood up and did the right thing for once. We need to thank them for that. You cannot imagine what kind of flack they will get from the leaders.
Second, it is nothing but pork and paybacks for getting democrats elected. It has nothing to do with fixing the problem which was totally caused by the inept congress that is now in office.

You don't think there's something "stimulating" about millions of dollars for condoms? This isn't much about economic stimulus, it's about solidifying a Democrat power base for years to come. They don't care if anything actually works, they just want to be able to say they did something in spite of Republican obstruction and sucker more clueless sheep into their fold.

The plan is apparently not stimulating the voters... unless you're a Democrat. 74% of Democrats support the plan.

Public Support for Economic Recovery Plan Slips to 42%

    Hello wingers:

It's time to show how liberal you REALLY are... Oh, I know you're LESS liberal than the Dems. But, there AIN'T a real conservative among the GOP in the House, cepting Ron Paul, and I'm not so sure about you guys.

I know you don't want to spend the $850 billion on what the Dems want to spend it on... So, tell me, what do YOU want it spent on? Or, are you going to tell me that the Republicans in congress aren't going to support ANY stimulus?? Nahhh, you're not going to tell me that.

If you did, you'd be fibbing..

Of course they're going to vote for something, they're politicians. They've proposed an alternative plan they claim "would create 6.2 million jobs for only $478 billion."

"Only" $478 billion - but at least they found a little bit of a spine, didn't cave to the new president and "picked up 11 Democrats" along the way. I'm sure that pi$$ed off The One and his disciples.

    Excon,
Instead of a trillion dollars on political pay back and pork, I will make this really simple for you. Halt the federal income tax for one year. ONE YEAR and watch the economy get back on it's feet. How hard is that?

"infrastructure " it can be argued is a legitimate expense by the government . The founders thought interstate commerce important enough to mention it in the Constitution. Is it stimulus ? Nope , but it is necessary .

That would not include direct funding to community organizers like ACORN . But building roads ,fixing aging aqueducts or subway systems is cool. Most of the cr*p in the bucket list is just giveaways. Now if they want to make a case for the giveaways then truth in advertising would dictate that they aren't disguised as economic stimulus.

Stimulus would be reducing taxes both individual and business . Reduce Cap Gains taxes to liberal-socialist European levels or lower. Stimulus would be refunds of taxes to individuals .
The Congressional Budget Office told it the way it is . According to the CBO review of the package, 82% of the stimulus in 2009 and nearly 70% in 2010 come from tax cuts and direct spending to individuals. In contrast, most of the $365 billion in new discretionary spending won't kick in until after 2010 and will have no stimulus effect at all. Why didn't Congress listen to it's own office's report ?

Even the liberal USA Today argued against the bill .
"House members have taken advantage of this fast-moving train to grab a ride for spending, tax cuts and pet projects that have long been on congressional and special-interest wish lists."

2 years of denied pork was put into a bucket list . That's what was passed by the party of "fiscal responsibility" .

At least one political person is paying off his promises to give to the people who got him elected. And they are not even trying to hide it, Does not this extreme honesty in giving money for political votes a real "change"

    Hello again, 450:

I'm for it... But, our government DOES have obligations it has to meet. In order to do so, it's going to have to borrow an awful lot MORE from the Chinese than we're going to borrow under the Obama plan.

It's kind of like borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.

How about this, 450? Let the bankrupt companies actually fail.

Tell me, what is the worst that would happen if we didn't pass the bill at all? WOuld we all go so crazy? No, I think we all would get somewhat "back to basics" and we would fight hard to get out of having to borrow and borrow till we are owned by a different country all together. I am willing to give up my cute jeans and vanilla creamer. I may be a little grumpy at first. Don't you think our government needs to give up the "extra" stuff too? Don't you think that if they gave up their jets and fancy "second" homes, that would save a little? Paying for after school programs (covered up daycare), uh what else, million dollar office upgrades without being NEEDED, just wanted. If we read the basic rules of staying afloat when it comes to money, you are to separate wants from needs... pay for needs and if there is money left over, you get a couple wants. Is that so much to farkin ask for? Sorry but this whole thing gets me so mad. Synnen said in one of her posts that it took her 15 years to become debt free, why can't the US take 15 years to get out of debt... the RIGHT way!! It is taking me the same amount of time to get out and stay out of debt. I would be willing to wait, wouldn't you? Everyone I talk to says they would be.
