Is there anything you can do to get rid of or reduce eye floaters ?
There is no treatment or surgery to reduce eye floaters. I don't notice mine because I don't concentrate on them.
It's true that you stop noticing them after a while, although they make me keep thinking I'm seeing things move off to my left. Mine started very suddenly in my late 60s, along with flashes of light (also common - mine are like parentheses), so I went to an opthamologist after about 4 months.
In general you will be told that if you don't have cataracts or glaucoma or any other eye disease (I have stage 1 cataracts), that the main advice is to report sudden change.
My optometrist stated that the brain lets you see what it wants you to see, and if you think about that, it is perfectly true regarding eye floaters.
Yeah I asked my eye doctor as well and he said not a dang thing can be done. I think they are a pain in the buttocks especially reading off a white page or screen.
We all have them... and if you don't focus on them, they won't bother you.
I have a small brown one that pops up every now and again. It is just annoying that it floats in and out of view and jumps when I try to focus on it. It isn't dangerous but should be monitored.
First to answer the question, yes there are some surgery that can get rid of many of them. But.. in most cases for the minor and common ones they will not do anything. Most people have a few and you get used to it.
I have more than normal, because of some head injury I am told and from many years of doing full contact fighting.
Because of some of the risk, and the fact I have gotten used to them, I opted not to do the operation
To answer the question...
It depends on what is causing the floaters.
