2003 toyota seuoia. Check engine light on.and traco off light on as well as vso trac light on. I had in shop 4 weeks ago same problem they said it was gas cap not on tight, I tried that today but did not make light go off, help if you can thank you dan

bulldozer3, I would:

. Ensure the gas cap is tight. Tighten the cap 3 clicks, after seating the cap.

. Reset the ECM, by using a code reader or scan tool. Disconnecting the negative battery cable for 15 seconds may work--be sure to record any radio codes first.

. Stop pumping gas into the fuel tank, after the pump clicks off. Fuel may be expanding into the charcoal canister and throwing the VSC/TRAC codes. Topping the tank off, after the nozzle clicks, can result in serious damage to the charcoal evaporative emission system.

The Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) Light and the Traction Control (TRAC) Light are turned on anytime the Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on, because both systems are disabled at that time. There is probably nothing wrong with those systems--the root cause is likely the CEL coming on, due to overfueling.

Many problems with VSC and trac lights coming on the '03's. If there is no CEL, and only the VSC/ABS, then the problem is only brake related.
If the CEL and the above lights are on it's most likely an evap or o2 sensor fault. And this is an engine concern like tex said.
Pray the ABS system is OK. This is a costly fix.
Let us know exactly what lights come on after battery disconnect. Let me know what exact codes are received.

Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Clean the master cylinder reservoir and cap, prior to opening the cap. Add fluid to the MAX line, if needed, and ensure that the float works properly. Valvoline Brake Fluid, which is ABS-aproved, is a DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluid that will work well in your Sequoia. Hopefully, this will cause the VSC and TRAC lights to go out--if not, it may indicate a more serious problem.

Since it sounds like you are hearing the brake pad sensors squeal, you should probably take your Sequoia to Toyota and have the disc brake pads replaced and the brake fluid changed. Replacing the brake fluid should help prevent problems with the ABS system and prolong the life of the calipers. If you go this route, ensure that the caliper pins get lubricated with silicone grease. If the discs need turning, see if they use the Pro-Cut machine, which minimizes lateral runout problems.

If you heard the "brake squeal" This may be a good thing. Pop the hood open and look at the brake fluid level.
If it's at the 'min' mark, then the brakes are just the problem.
This does set a code on the 03 Sequoia for just that. But the plot can thicken for other ABS issues on this model.

kitch428, bulldozer3 informed me the problem was due to overfilling the gas tank, resulting in $500 damage to the charcoal evaporative emission system.

Was that a recent PM? Their latesd post stated no CEL, but ABS light still comes on. That takes ECM out of the picture.
Of course, they have to drive it 2 trips to get the CEL to come back on.
If the canister fixed all the MIL's, then great, however not cheap, but then again, these oversized gas thirsty SUV's are NEVER cheap to fix!

Same problem here with Engine Check and Trac off lights on, went to AutoZoom, they get code 0456 to indicate the gas cap was loss. All lights are off after they reset error code.
If the lights come back on again, then I will need to replace my gas cap.

I have a 2001 Sequoia with 127,000 miles. My check engine light came on soon after my VSC light would flash, beep & my sterring wheel would pull hard to the right. I had it checked, only to be told that I need a new 02 sensor/bank 02 & the callibration reset to 0; just as recommended by Toyota. The callibration was set to 0 and an appointment scheduled to have the sensor replaced 3 days later. Of course I thought that this was the end of my VSC issue. Little did I know that it wasn't.

I was 150-200 miles away from home on I-95 when it done the same thing, except this time it put me half-way in the lane to my right. It is terrifying to know that your child/children were in this vehicle and I had no control. Thank God no-one was in that lane!!

I took it into the closest Toyota Dealership that I could locate. They have replaced the "Ya'll Sensor" for a small fee of $618 sensor & $375+ rental of a 2010 Camry=$1,000. I have been assured that this will fix my problem. Tomorrow I will pickup my vehicle. Time will tell.

It seems that this might be a known Toyota issue and they should be responsible for replacement of this part not the customer who thought they were buying a QUALITY VEHICLE. I only say this because I also own a Toyota Tundra & a Toyota Camry and have never had any such issue on those vehicles. If you have any resonable pointers on what I need to check next (besides the 01 sensor) please share with me.

I have performed an evap test with an evap. Tester which pressuerizes the system and times the pressure reading or leakdown time; system pass.
Performed smoke test in several different ways; system pass (no somke detected leaking from front of engine compartment to tank.
I am not clear on the way this system founctions, the 3rd solenoid on the canister which is called the VSV switching valve and the 2 vacuum diaphram also on the canister leaveing me preplexed.

03 Toyota Sequoia 2W/D, DTC P0456 (very small leak)
I am a Ford and Mitsu. Master tech.

p0456 is a leak about .020 detected which is way too small for a smoke test. What's best to do in this situation is replace the fuel cap and clean the sealing surface on the filler neck. Clear cel and let it go to see if it returns.

My CEL and Trac lights came on this morning. I took the lists advice and checked my Gas Tank Lid and removed the negative battery cable for 15 seconds. Everything is back to normal. Thanks you all.
