Since my son returned from iraq and has married he has cut himself off from his family. We do not know why, I have seen my grandson twice and I am heart broken.It is to the point that it is eating me alive. To make matters worse my mother is dying he he does not even seem to care. I cannot firque out what I did and he is my only child. If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it thanks

I am sorry for your pain. Perhaps the experiences in Iraq coupled with a new marriage are making your son distance himself from you. My 22 year old son is newly married and seems to have reduced his contact with me - it does hurt. Is there a board game that you can send to all of them (your son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons) for the entire family to play? Your son must be having to readjust to life here again and that can be very demanding and confusing. The board game from you would reinforce the fact that you value them as a separate family - you might even nicely suggest in a note that perhaps they could teach it to you the next time that you visit.
