I have family traveling from California. They told me they have to go through a "checkpoint" in Texas. Why is this? What do they do at checkpoints?

Hello B:
California has fruit checkpoints. Texas may too. They only ASK if you have fruit. They don't search.

REALLY? That's odd lol
Well actually I remember a few years ago my ex boyfriend was traveling TO California and at the checkpoint he got arrested by INS because he didn't have his green card (on him) he ended up giving up his gold chain ps2 and TV in exchange for not being stuck there for 3 months to see a judge that's why I was asking what the heck do they do? Search your wallet?
Hello again, B:
I almost put the word LEGAL in my answer because fruit checkpoints are the only LEGAL checkpoints we have. Unless he was going to Mexico he never should have been asked for his papers.
That doesn't mean it didn't happen. We live in a police state now.

yea definitely happened he wrote me a letter from there and called me collect from there they took all his valuables + $50 that I had to send him and let him go if not he was going to have to wait 3 months to see a judge SO CORRUPT! I hope my family is OK traveling haha as far as I know they were all born here =)
OH YEA and just out of curiosity - WHY on earth do they care if you are carrying FRUIT?
Hello again, B:
It's to control the spread of the apple maggot.

If you are traveling near the border, there are immigration checkpoints interior to the actual border.
