    92 honda civic won't start
I was looking for a place I could find some answers to my problem... and I found this forum.. anyway..

My 92 honda civic has an interesting problem. At one point it would barely start.. thinking it was sparkplugs,wires,rotor.. I replaced them all.. seemed to work greatly.. lacking money at the time and noticing that another of my cars problems was the lack of air, I consulted a friend and he told me I could live without an air filter until next paycheck. I am not sure my problem is a battery related problem but the indecator light for the battery is on when the car finally starts.. when I rev the engive the light goes away and everything works fine. Usually I have to sit there and turn the car over about 30-40 times to get it running.. I turn the key and it turns over VERY slowly.. but then becomes more quick and after a while it starts.. this doesent seem like a very good method of getting my car started.. and the winter months are getting colder and colder here. So my question is... what do you think is wrong? I love my car and want it to run well.. payday is today I am going to get a new battery(the battery is like 4 years old) and a air filter.. maybe this will fix my problem.. I still want to hear what you think

    Thanks

Could be no more than bad connections. You have several large, important wires. One runs from the - marked terminal on the battery. Remove it, and clean both ends and where they fasten to. Leaving it disconnected at one end, remove the other. Clean both ends and any other wires attached at the same place. If it went to a thing with several wires on the fender, remove the other large one which should go to the starter, and clean both ends and where they fasten. Find the alternator. It is round, but short and stubby, about 6'' long. It likely is driven by a belt that drive several other things. It may have several wires, but one obviously bigger than the rest. Remove it and clean it and put it back. Finally, reconnect the other end of the first wire. I said to leave it disconnected to keep from making big sparks if one of the other wires touched the body or a wrench touch one and the body at the same time. It is much safer working on the car with that wire disconnected.

With everything connected, try to start the car. With a little luck, it should start better.

I just went and got a new air filter and a new battery.. I also got a tester to test a bunch of stuff on the car.. the tester said that everything in my electircal system and starting system is normal.. and also said that my air flow and head is normal as well.. I like that :) I put the air filter on first then the battery.. car starts and runs beutyfully.. I love the sound of it just barely turning over 1 time then it starts:) this makes me happy even more.. I got my old battery tested and it has 6.7 volts going through it.. obviously that isint enough.. everything is fine now :) now I just need to find some synchros for my ford ranger and find out how much its going to be to replace them or how hard its going to be to put them in myself..

    Thanks everyone for your help

I am glad the battery fixed the el;ectrical problem. You may find the tester useful in the future.

I would look into replacing the syncros very carefully before starting. I have never done that, and it could be messy requiring some special tools.

92 civic won't start PLEASE HELP
I live in LA and I have never had a problem. It has been raining non stop down pour for 17 days. Last night I went out and my car wouldn't start. It turns over but no fire. AAA came and got it started by adding fuel shaking it, I don't know what... He told me to keep it running, go get fuel cleaner and a full tank of gas. I did that and no problem. This morning I went out and same thing. It won't start. It turns over but that's as far as it goes. Tank is full. It's still raining.. What can it be? I have never had a problem. This is out of the blue. The last time I drove I (the night before last) and before all this happened it had never acted up or anything. It's a 92 with just under 85K. Please help
