    Should I shakespeare ?
My name is Schuettpelz and I am 24 years old. In high school, I was in two shakespearean plays: Twelfth night (or what you will) and Midsummer night's dream.

I swore of performing Shakespeare since. Well I have been returning to theater and strictly performed in musical theater since. I recently gave my first professional audition in the area and, in my mind, blew it. They requested two contrasting monologues, and I think I've been relying too heavily on my singing. My friends tell me I can act, but I am not convinced.

I've read that if one learns how to perform Shakespeare, he/she can perform anything. Is this true?

I've never heard this - at one time I lived in NYC and had an Agent and, again, never once did I hear this.

I fail to see the connection between Shakespeare and all other types of theatre.

I will agree, I love shakespeare, goe to the plays locally all the time. If you learn to do that, that is what you are trained in.

In general some parts of acting, learning your lines, stage present and more all help.

My goal is to become a better actor, not just a character actor or a musician.
